DIY Stained Mason Jars


Have you seen these coloured mason jars before?
I've seen them in pictures, but I've never seen them in a store!
So I decided to make some. Can't be that hard, right?
Well, its not. And bonus: I had all the necessary tools on hand already.


Materials:

Mason jar
Wax paper
Mod Podge
food colouring
Spoons or foam brushes that you can get glue on
Paper bowls (or plates)

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 200F. In a paper bowl, mix together 2 tbsp of water and 4 tbsp of mod podge. Stir until mixed with a foam brush or spoon. Add food colouring to get the desired tint. I added 4 drops for each of my jar colours. 

2. Pour the water and mod podge mixture into the mason jar. Turn the jar around in circles, making sure to coat the entire inside of the jar with the mixture. 

3. Pour the water and mod podge mixture back out of the jar, leaving a thin coating inside. Make sure to coat the lip of the jar as you pour it out. Wipe off any mixture on the outside of the jar. If you leave too much mixture in the jar, the jar stain isn't as uniform so try to only leave a thin layer.

4. When ready, place the jar upside down on baking sheet with wax paper in the oven. Bake for 3 minutes. When done, turn the jar right side up. Carefully wipe the excess water and mod podge mixture from the lip of the jar with a paper towel. Then place the jar right side up in the oven and bake for an additional 30-40 minutes, or until the stain is clear on the jar. If you're not sure if its done, a bit of extra time doesn't harm it.
